Vans first started out in in 1976. Very soon after, a newly emerging cult of skateboarders chose Vans Shoes to be their footwear of choice. Soon after, these skaters asked to have different colours combined on the one shoe. The first was the red & blue Authentics designed by cult skaters Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta. The skateboarding craze spread massively, and with it so did the popularity and status of Vans Shoes
